Want to take a trip to one of the most historical landmarks in all of the U.S.? Ferries that depart to Alcatraz leave from Pier 39. Alcatraz Island can be viewed beautifully from Pier 39, but a ferry can also be taken to visit this stately prison which previously housed some of history’s most notorious criminals. Now it is managed by the national Park Service and boatloads of tourists visit the prison daily. The Alcatraz Night Tour is voted as the most interesting tour of the island. A self-guided tour by means of headphones narrates the story of Alcatraz. Listening to these tours with their sounds from the prison at night, when the only light in many of the rooms is by moonlit, create an eerie and creepy atmosphere. It is truly an experience to be fully enjoyed.
